We will be in the Clacton area on 29th-31st May and if the weather is half
decent we hope to spend some time at St Osyth naturist beach. We've never
been there before, but I've had a look at NUFF and Google maps and have
worked out roughly where it is. As you walk along the beach from the car
park at Hutleys, is there any indication of where the naturist area starts?
Also, I read something about watching the tides, does it get cut off at high
tide? Any other tips?

Thanks,

David

There certainly used to be. (See also below.)
I cannot confirm that there still is, however.
The sign at the entrance to the beach states that it is 1 km. further
on.

I don't believe so.
It used to be possible to drive to the naturist area, but not in the
last couple of years. Maybe Jeremy Clarkson could manage it! :-)
I cannot say whether it is possible this year.

There are no facilities at the beach, so take a leak at the Essex
Seagull or Sailor Boy (pubs) before you go, unless you are happy to do
it in situ. Take whatever refreshments you may need.
Beach is pebbles, so think about footwear.

(Below)
IIRC the naturist area borders a fenced nature reserve.
Closest to the fence and furthest from Hutleys appeared to be the gay
area. The middle area contained some exhibitionists and the
nearest/first area was used by straight naturists.
Sorry if this is a bit depressing, just a fact of life.

Sometimes sad, old gits (often shaved) go for a "stroll".
Just wave a camera, or similarly equipped mobile phone, in their
direction and they will scuttle off.

I just reviewed what I wrote and would like to add that in some of the
respects I mentioned it is not substantially different to Morfa or
Corton. Perhaps the biggest difference is that it is private property,
rather than council (Crown?) controlled (Morfa?).

You are welcome.

As it happens, I went there yesterday, stayed a little too long, so have
avoided the sun today.

It took me 20-30 minutes to walk to the beach. The "going" is somewhat
varied. Wheelchairs and wheeled baby carriages are out of the question.

At the risk of repeating myself, don't expect a paradise, but with fine
weather, a good book, some Radio 4 and a couple of cans, a good time can
be had.
