Bug identification

I was advised you folks might know what this is. Found it on my leg, went to squash it thinking it was a midge (I'm in Central Scotland), and it jumped off much like a sand fly.

The latest cat I got a fortnight ago is losing a lot of hair. Apparently this is from excessive grooming that they do when they have fleas. I'll spray him.

I don't think it's a cat flea. I looked on line for a cat flea photo and
got this (ignore the USA references, only good pic I found)

It looks a bit like a louse, but lice don't jump.

BTW, if you think your cats *do* have fleas, rather than spray them, ask
your vet for Stronghold. It's a spot-on and does fleas, lice, roundworms
and earmites all in one go. I use it on my own cat and he never has anything
parasitic on him or in him, I highly recommend it.

Can't help with the bug ID though, sorry.

Yes, that pic is a flea but looks nothing like your first pic, which was not
a flea.
I gave my opinion on your first photo (which looks like a louse)

The tiny image you referred to in your original post is most definitely
not a flea of any species or from any angle. Your creature clearly has
six quite similar legs, fleas do not. The rear pair especially are much
more developed in the flea, that being how they are able to jump. There
is no angle of view which makes those legs shrink to match the front
pair as they do in your original image.

The other image you refer to as being a good match is nothing like your
original creature regardless of the angle from which the image was taken
(see above regarding rear legs).

Please be advised in advance that I do not require glasses, new glasses,
or an eye test.

The link above is the only image that has the body shape the same as my photo. It is the same bug. My bug also jumps so fast I can't see it, and is difficult to squash. And the timing suggests it came in on a new cat. It's a cat flea.

A bug is a specific type of insect, not a generic term for all insects.
They cannot jump.
The body shape of the two insects in the images to which you refer is
completely different, as are the legs.

It's a very unusual name. I'd have no idea what sex it is. Closest I know if is Ashley, which can be either.
