The dates for both the Incarace-Vs-Northampton decider and the
Ringwood-Vs-PRI return match......both on the same day, both clashing with
the Autospeed World Final.....anybody know who will be missing from the
teams? (If any)

The other thing I would like to know.....when the meetings are run and there
is a winner...is there any chance of a South-Vs-Midlands head to head to
decide who's really the top dog?

On the PRI side there has been some concern that the Whiteman twins might
be out of the Ringwood return leg, though Dennis turned up at the Non-Ford
meeting just gone (report and result in the usual place), and Wayne Prayle
will probably be out of it due to his ORC ban (PRI are contesting it but
it doesn't look likely that it will be overturned). Mark Want, who was the
first reserve will most likely take one spot, but as to the other it could
be anyone! Some folk have mentioned Sonny Sherwood, but Sonny wasn't that
happy at being left out in the first part...

There were a couple of injuries on the Ringwood side too, but I have heard
nothing official about changes to their team.

Probably not this year. The various promotions are now heading towards
their end-of-season finals and changes to the programme could be
difficult. I know that a Spedeworth vs. PRI challenge was suggested by a
couple of folk earlier in the year but that was ruled out for the same
reason. However, if this team thing is successful (and it looks like it
could be) then next years' scedule should be very interesting... :)

That guy from the Rabbits? what did they ban him for? Could you please
explain to me how the ORC ban thing works. I still am yet to hear why Polo
got that ridiculous 2 year one......I know he pulled off some storming hits
at Birmingham Champion of Champions (seen them)....Incarace only wanted him
banned for 3 months for following Goldie and Greenway in after he was
verbally warned for doing Webb - so who got to slap another 21 on top? How
come you can get an ORC ban for following in when some ORC tracks are OK
with it?

You did OK without him though! Some people have asked why 401 Psycho got to
race for us (Northampton) when there were other drivers wanting to race.....
Although he is Trackstar registered he has always seemed to race for the
Badgers (even against Trackstar at Swaffham in the interpro!) On paper the
Incarace team looked very good...I think the reason they suffered such a
crushing was that only a handful of their team race at Brafield more than
once in a blue moon whereas all the top Badgers drivers race there now and
then.

I would like to see more of the head to head meetings next season rather
than more and more meaningless title meetings (Trackstar and Spedeworth take
note) Racing Spedeworth would be a waste of time in my opinion....I don't
know about this year, but in 1997 they were always well short of the 15
drivers in the interpro - who says they would get anywhere near a full team
to Arena?

PRI would do much better taking on Northampton after they trash Incarace
again........although I seem to remember PRI getting consumed by the
Badger's appetite for destruction on their way to the 1996 interpro title!

I am surprised RDC v PRI doesn't happen....although I guess the teams would
be squabbling over all the dual licensed drivers! I would definitely be
supporting PRI in that one....My favourite moment so far this year was at
the Icebreaker final when Shane Brown followed Will Chipchase in, only for
Tarny to follow Matt Stroud in flat out right next to him! (never been a fan
of the Tigers)

I think basically the ORC just got fed up with discussing the man and his
actions over the years. When a driver is categorically told not to do
something, and then goes out and does it, then a short 3 month ban is not
much of a punishment. Although I am not sure, I would not be surprised if he
was actually under a suspended ban for his earlier escapades. As you know,
if you misbehave whilst under a suspension, then the punishment comes into
force.

Incidentally although his is an ORC ban he can still be seen at some of the
dirt tracks - he has raced at Smallfield.

You mentioned that you hoped there could be a North vs South deciding team
bash, well in a way there is. At Birmingham on 8th November there is the
Interpromotional Team Challenge which has been held at Ipswich and Arena in
previous years. Each promotion sends, I think, 6 drivers, and Northampton
have done well in the past, although not as well as double champions
Incarace (he,he). The Mildenhall Fen Tigers though tend to win most things
these days! - That meeting on 8th November also featured the return to
Birmingham of the 2 litre Stock Cars.

hate to tell you this Rob , but i am told Northampton will be without the
Herberts due to the British at Mildenhall the night before.

It was at the instigation of RDC following the two day meeting (the
Reliant Grand Prix meeting). The official reason given was "dangerous and
irresponsible driving", but it is generally thought he got it for chopping
a tree down for firewood... :)

As for Polo, the general consensus is that the ORC acted out of line in
putting that 2 year ban on him. For myself, I'd agree that the ORC have
been high-handed in that he had already been given penalties from the
individual tracks for his actions during the year which he had served.
The ORC ban was given for an accumulation of offences during the 1997
season and not for any single action; this was done with no defence, and
with no appeal. (note that this much is my own opinion, not an official
line).

Could be. Shame about the Interpromo this year though... looks like the
Fen Tigers will get a walkover.

That was the reason why the old PRI vs Spedeworth challenges were stopped.
If Spedeworth /can/ get enough in for a 15 car team then it would be worth
it. The one thing I would not want to see is Spedeworth blustering a
challenge and then not turning up (remembers back to the first year of the
Firecracker and the Easter Unlimited meeting at Arena with lots of
invisible S! drivers).

The trouble was that after a certain local incident, a lot of our top
drivers wanted nothing more to do with the Interpromo, so you mainly got
our second and third string drivers with only a few top drivers making any
effort at all. The difference between that and the Ringwood challenge team
is that the current team is made up of all the major Arena drivers, and
bears little resemblance to the old Interpromo Hammers team.

hehehe that was a good one! As for RDC vs PRI, the two promotions shared
many of the drivers for some years. That is much less the case now, though
some drivers continue to do both. A team challenge could happen there in
the future, though the dual license bods would need to make up their minds
about which side of the fence they sat on before tossing their hats in for
any one team. (That could have knock on effects, of course!)

Hopefully the other promotions will be a little more forthcoming with
teams for the challenge at Birmingham (the ORC Team Challenge) than in the
couple of season they had at Arena (often we had to fill the Scottish team
place, for example, because they promised a team then didn't deliver).
