I'm currently hillclimbing a 1.6 205 Gti and for next season am intending to
fit an LSD. Does anyone have any experience of the AP Suretrac differential
or know the differences in performance between it and a normal LSD? Also, in
the advertisements it mentions ratios of 2.3 and 2.8. What does this mean?!
I'm considering Ledas to replace current 'works' Bilsteins. Any opinions /
experience in this area?

Many Thanks,

Hi,

I think that for both issues the best answers come from Peugeot sport. The
Suretrack is an excellent "street" lsd but you might find it a bit too
progressive for competition use. I have no comments on its reliability as I
have not used one myself but have driven cars on which it was mounted.

I hope this helps,

For hillclimb use I'd say you want a diff that's smooth & progressive,
which the Suretrak is. I use one, but in a rear-wheel drive application
so I can't comment on how well it works with FWD but I'd guess that
it'll be a lot nicer than a plate-type (if these are available). The ratio
is the final drive ratio. If the car's main use is hillclimbing then you
may want to get the gearing as low as possible.

I spoke to AP about these diffs at the end of last year when I wanted one
for a Citroen Saxo rally car and was told that they had been discontinued.
Dealers may have a few left in stock but I would suggest checking direct
with AP (024 7663 9595 - I think) as spares may be a problem in the future.
I ended up with a plate diff from Avanti Motorsport (01458 446517) and it
works great but then the Saxo does have power steering.

Ooops, didn't know such a thing was quoted for the Suretrak. Wonder
what mine is...
