I'd parked my bike on a sloped bit of pavement, about 6 foot clear behind
with a step down (about 3") right behind the rear wheel,

Got on it and paddled it backwards, slipped over the step and gathered a
bit of pace... then the bike just stopped moving.

Simultaneously my right leg started SCREAMING at me. I'd crushed it
between a pillar (made out of an old bit of train track) and the bike's
footrest. Fuck.

6 hours or so on and it's still hurting, Suspect I won't be doing any
exercise tomorrow.

Shame really because I'm picking up the new Honda and had planned
to go green-laning but there's no fucking way I'm squeezing my leg
into MX Boots.

I was KotL. Still have it *somewhere*.

This doesn't qualify. Not when put up against people who electrocuted
themselves with AA batteries, or had wardrobes fall on them twice, or
who licked car battery terminals "to see what would happen".

Ooh! do really old ones count? Like welding under a car and having a
red-hot blob of fizzing metal enter an ear, not once but twice in the
space of as many minutes, resulting in a perforated eardrum?

I once unwittingly released full fuel system pressure from the fuel
filter on the underside of my Ford Ranger pickup. Directly into
my ear-hole.

Jesus that hurt. There was a quick visit to the Urgent Care clinic
where they proceeded to squirt ice cold water at nearly the same
pressure level onto my inflamed eardrum. If I had known what their
'remedy' was going to be, I would have saved myself the aggravation
and expense and simply flushed it myself with warm soothing water at
low pressure.

Bit of overlap with the OMF, nicht wahr? I got an OMF number for burning all hair off my
face when testing a starter motor on a freshly charged battery, or was it for blowing
myself up whilst adjusting a distributor on an engine badly flooded with petrol. Or could
it have been for when I hit a spanner with a 2lb hammer and it bounced into my eye? I
could list many other such incidents, but the Segovia scales have me somewhat occupied at
the moment.

Oh I forgot the time I had removed the intake manifold from a 1967
Buick V-8 and draped all the spark plug wires into the Vee. Then,
I cranked the engine over, with the ignition system (and fuel pump)
working fine...

Cue copious flames, to be put out rather quickly by dad wielding the
garden hose. No injuries other than to my pride. Car was undamaged
and soldiered on after a bit of cleanup and an oil change to get rid
of the water in the sump.

Well, thanks for the kind offers.

I've spent most of the day cutting fucking hedges and in that
time the swelling on the calf has gone down and the bruise
has come out. I think I'll be alright to ride it tomorrow
afternoon.

Besides which... as it was the ex-demonstrator I see no point

Adequate amount of power for what I want I *think*. We will

When I sustained a compound fracture of my tibia (bone sticking out
through skin) the doctor in A&E asked how much it hurt 'on a scale
from 0 to 10, where 0 is no pain and 10 is the worst pain you can
imagine'.

I said 'about 2 or three' since I can image some things that would
hurt a lot more (100% third degree burns, etc.) and my leg didn't
hurt that much unless I tried to move it.

I think I've carried my fair share of broken bones (can't even
remember how many... thinks... left leg twice, right leg twice,
left wrist, right shoulder, left humerus. Plus sundry ribs and
fingers.

So... I don't think I do need to try harder. I think others
need to do their share; not you since I think you're probably
ahead of me in one of your accidents alone.

Anyway... new bike for greenlaning plus my solitary nature (and
aversion to wearing body armour) plus time to greenlane is bound
to end up with an injury or two soon.

Actually, my big one only broke 6 bones, but one of them was my femur,
which is always non-trivial.

When I came off the Pegaso about about two months ago, I got a crushed
lower leg as well as a sprained ankle. The crush injury is now about 90%
recovered but it was REALLY painful for the first two weeks after the
accident. The ankle sprain is about 80% recovered - I have almost lost the
limp but it still hurts a fair bit if it is extended/flexed too far. I
reckon I should be back to normal in another month or so. The good news is
that when the swelling finally went down enough to get a motorcycle boot
on again (a couple of weeks ago), it was actually quite helpful because of
the support it provided.

Reminds me of my first job after leaving skool, I worked at a place called Breaking Bikes (known to some of this parish). Shit job but filled a gap before I started my apprenticeship at AERE. I managed to sneeze whilst siphoning a petrol tank and apparently blew a fine mist of petrol from my nose and ears, thus sort of demonstrating how Mr Bosch came up with the idea for replacing the carburettor.
