WARNING.
What follows may be considered by some as maudlin tripe, but if so,
may I say to those who consider it so - 'Go fuck yersels.'

Today I bid farewell to the cat that I found in the house.
A blood test this morning confirmed feline leukaemia virus and the
prognosis was not good, to put it mildly. She'd been right off her
food and heavily dehydrated for the past couple of days. At first it
didn't seem all that odd, she'd quite happily ignore grub for a day or
two at a time, but as the weekend progressed, it became more obvious
that something more serious was wrong.

Poor little bastard, at least the last 6 months of her life were
decent.

This happens a mere month after finding the rangy stray dead in the
building, having been trapped under a pile of fallen boxes. That was
his lair, the only place he felt safe. Having cataracts in both eyes,
he found a place to lie up and at the same time be near the grub and
his feline mates.

Bugger, bugger, bugger.

There is a place called Rainbow Bridge. When our beloved pets die, they
journey to this idyllic spot. There are meadows and hills enough for all to
frolic freely, and plenty of food, water and sunshine. Each and every animal
is warm and comfortable.

Those pets that have been ill or aged are restored to health and vigor.
Those who are hurt or maimed are made whole and strong. Each is just as we
remember in our dreams of days and times gone by. Our pets are happy and
content at Rainbow Bridge, except for one small thing. Every creature misses
someone special, whom they've left behind.

The animals all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly
stops, and looks into the distance. Bright eyes are intent; an eager body
begins to quiver. Suddenly, running from the group, flying over the green
grass, legs are going faster and faster.

You have been spotted, and you and your special friend come together in
joyous reunion. Happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress
the beloved head; and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet,
so long gone from your life, but never absent from your heart. Then you
cross the Rainbow Bridge together.

My sympathies. That feline leukaemia is a total bastard. I am well versed in
its nasty ways. I've lost at least three (and one unconfirmed due to a lost
blood sample, many years ago) mogguns to it.

Mourn your cat friend without fear of being labelled a maudlin tripe spewing
nerk, mate - and may all those who don't understand *why* you are bereaved
find that all the hairs on their arses have turned into drumsticks, and
beaten the shit out of them.

Some years ago, I came downstairs to find my favourite Tom dead (which
the vet later informed me was due to Feline Leukaemia) looked like the
tough little bastard had put up a good fight.

Fair enough.

I remember you posting, just after you found the little beast. ISTR
that it was unanimous that you were doing a good thing taking her in
but that you might have difficulties later.

That's what counts, mate - you did the best thing by her.

My sympathies, Dave. Off down the Animal Shelter with you soon now
and find another couple of mogs that need their lives brightening up,
mate.

All the best now.

Can I just add "right between the eyes". I mean, this is pussing chats
we're talking about, and they's _important_.

s'always a bugger when they leave you. Don't feel you shouldn't
grieve. I've been more upset by cats dying [1] than most people
(except for close relatives) whose funerals I've attended.

I'm a big softy, I know, but a good cry really helps let it all out...
