Common sense prevails at last. We've seen queues of foreign bikers
fresh off the ferry from Amsterdam struggling at the toll booths.

A result, as last year another article said "Tunnel management said the
toll for motorcyclists would be abolished in 2014, and that the move had
been planned for several years.". How does it take several years to plan
something like that?

Because not enough of you are bright enough to realise that a go slow is
ultimately quicker...

'The physical difficulties motorcyclists encounter when using the tolls,
for example the need to take off gloves to find the right coins, often
meant delays for other motorists.'

I'd like to know too.

As it goes, why don't they just create a motorcycle lane instead of
having bikes go through the barriers. It'll be much more practical.

*Ding*. The Mersey tunnels have a dedicated lane for bikes to the left
of the pay booths. Ok, so they have a speed bump to slow you down but
you're not having to pay a toll.

Same in France in a lot of cases. Especially when there are bike related
events throughout the country.

I've struggled myself - including trying to pay with 10 two pence
pieces - I was successful, but that might have been because of the
queue that was forming behnd me.

I was panicking on the M25 on the way to Dover first time on a bike years
ago.

The QE bridge was looming, no signs telling me how much, i had no change, so
nipped into the Thurrock services, got some cash from the ATM, bought a
drink i didnt need for the change & set off.

Coming out of the fucking services there is a sign about 20m after saying
bikes are free.

Shortly after that i then needed a piss stop too...

There was a bike lane for me to use on the Pont de Normandie gare de péage.
No warning signs to move right though, just a small sign with a picture of
a bicycle & moto once you arrived at the actual gare. Plus the lane was
full of water of indeterminate depth...

There's one on the Tancarville, too.

Or, as on the Forth bridge, spot a barrier up and whizz through, while
some tosspot in a hi-vis has conniptions. Supposedly I had to stop and
tell them I was on a bike, ffs.

I suspect it's dealing with the change from 20p they get for their £10
or £20 notes.

Why the panic ? As long as you had some coin of the realm or a card to pay
with, it becomes their problem as to how they manage the change.

Even when using the M6 toll road, I get oodles of satisfaction of how long
it takes me on the bike to get gloves off, find moeny, pay, put change
away, put gloves on, take gloves off, blow nose, put gloves on etc. All
the while chatting to the nice lady in the booth.

For some reason I get a mental picture of you doing the whole Frank
Spencer type thing, complete with a little purse with a zip on it and
everything.

I must see the quack about the side effects of these pills.

Aye well, this was ~20years ago.

It was free for bikes at the time, but I was supposed to stop anyway.

Snot that hard. 20 years ago, living in Sydney, I would always zip a
toll coin into my right hand glove's zip if I knew I was going over
the Habour bridge. It was piss easy and quick to unzip glove (didn't
need to take it off) and drop coin into toll bin.
