Way Way OT: Tree Painting

Driving around, I've noticed the odd tree has been painted a bright colour.
There's one just of the A48(M) outside of Cardiff and another just as you
approach Monmouth on the A449. Picture 8 on the BBCs web site shows what I

Anyone know what this is all about?

Around here they paint the orange trees white. There's about a hundred
different reasons given, so obviously nobody knows. They've just always
done it so they carry on doing it.
