Hi there

I am looking for some information on the PMS 3 battery charger the one I
have before me is broken. And after taking it apart I can see the
problem
Component VDR 1 is damaged but sadly the information on the side of this
component has been blown away
My question is there anyone who can put me in contact with someone who
would know what the size of this component would be or direct me to
where I could get a circuit diagram of the charging circuit board
There is phone numbers on the side of the charger but they no longer
work

A VDR is a Voltage Dependant Resistor, also known as a varistor, and it
should be across the mains input to the charger. Put in VERY basic terms if
the input voltage is below the rating of the VDR it acts as a very high
value resistor and does nothing. If the voltage rises above its rated value
it's resistance drops dramatically and basically causes a short circuit
across the input which should blow the fuse and protect the charger
circuitry. I assume the input voltage of the charger is standard mains
(nominal 230v). Maplin (www.maplin.co.uk) do a 275V VDR (code CP76H) which
should be okay for you. It's expensive though - 79p ;-) If you know anyone
with an account RS Components do a very good selection too.

Is there any reason why the input voltage would have spiked?

The forum you're looking at is actually an unofficial web 'gateway' to a
usenet newsgroup officially called 'uk.rec.motorcaravans'.

So welcome to usenet :))

Usenet is an interesting thing in its own right, and predates the
internet let alone the web. You don't have to use the web to get to
usenet - indeed most veterans find the experience is much better if you
use a dedicated 'newsreader' program connecting to a public 'news
server'. Some disapprove of the use of web forums as a way to use
newsgroups and even block messages posted from such places.

The most widely known and used web gateway to usenet is operated by
'Google Groups' (which also offers its own web forums which aren't part
of usenet). This newsgroup as carried by Google can be found at
<https://groups.google.com/forum/#!forum/uk.rec.motorcaravans>.

Most genuine web forums have a different character from usenet
newsgroups.

Start here <https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Usenet> if you're interested
in learning more.
