Hi Steve
Fiat recommend: All 1.9D/TD Ducatos Check every 36,000 miles or
4 years
Ducato up to 1999: Replacement every
63,000 miles or 7 years
Ducato 2000: Replacement
every 72,000 miles or 8 years
Ducato 2001: Replacement
every 72,000 miles or 5 years
The previous use and service history of the vehicle must always be taken
into account.
The timing belt should be carefully inspected for wear or damage (cracking,
scuffing,
damaged teeth, side wear etc), however minor, which could lead to failure
- with possibly expensive results.
This engine is designated as an INTERFERENCE engine in which the possibility
of
valve-to-piston damage in the event of a timing belt failure is MOST LIKELY
to occur.
I hope you find this information useful.

Hi Stephen,
Would the above also apply to the Boxer 1.9TD c1998?
Bob
Good Morning Bob
CAMBELT CHANGE INTERVALS - PEUGEOT BOXER 1.9TD
Peugeot recommend:
Up to July 1998 - under normal driving conditions (motorhome as
opposed to commercial use) change belt every 72,000 miles.
From August 1998 - every 80.000 miles.
Please remember that for these purposes the age of the van relates to
chassis number, not the date of first registration.
This is particularly relevant to motorhomes as the delay in between chassis
manufacture and the actual construction of the motorhome may take several
months.
In other words, a motorhome registered in, say, January 1999 may actually
fall into the 'Up to July 1998' category.
It's a pig of a job on a Boxer - 4.5 hours instead of the 2.5 hours on the
Ducato !
Hope this helps.

Hi Stephen,
Many thanks for that.
Bob
As far as I am aware the timing belt on Express's are not rubber-composite
but chain-belts with no recommended change intervals.
When it rattles, you'll know it needs changing !
But I'll confirm that with our service department next week and let you know
if otherwise.
