HI does any one know about air con units that can be fitted inside the
vehicle. I seem to recall reading an add about two years ago about an air
con unit fitted internally. Regards Mark

If you meant a roof mounted verion then 'MrCheerful' has already
supplied one source... but the other more common one is the Electrolux
company, but be advised they are noisy beasts to operate, I have a
friend fitted one to his Elddis Superstorm ... then only used it once
because the noise of the thing droning and drumming on the roof drove
him 'nuts'.

However, i suspect that you are referring to the ducted systems where
the aircon unit goes in a locker underneath and the cool air is piped
throughout the van (similar to the warm air heating units). These are
typically only installed in the larger vehicles because of the size and
power consumption... if you are seriously considering such then you
might want to arrange a look at the units fitted to modern tour
coaches.

The only ducted ones I have any knowledge of for retrofitting are the
american DuoTherm unit (http://www.advrv.com/ac.htm) I am not aware
of any ducted motorhome designed units in the UK. All the UK ones that
I have come across are for coaches (24v and large independant
generator/motors).

Truma Frostair 2300.
Details

Fully ducted air conditioning unit developed especially for caravans, motorhomes and mobile homes. 2.3kW. Can be
installed for multi-room operation - ideal for horseboxes

Is this what you are looking for, I have been looking for aircon unit that is not roof mounted as not keen on cutting
into roof.

Bit more in for here, Saphir comfort another one.
http://www.truma.com/truma05/en/products/detail1_en_112299.html

Saphir comfort
Light, quiet and powerful
The new Saphir comfort air conditioning system sets new standards in air conditioning technology. Enjoy individual,
comfortable climate for the entire family.
with 2400 Watts of cooling power, the air is not just cooled but also cleaned and dried
the new housing technology and the latest generation of fan motors make the Saphir comfort quiet as a whisper
weighing in at just 24 kg, it is up to 40% lighter than comparable equipment.
the three cold air outlets and the versatile accessories make it possible to distribute the cold air individually and
flexibly throughout the vehicle
the fan power and the room temperature can be individually set by remote control - and the Saphir comfort can also be
programmed up to 15 hours in advance using the integrated timer
installing the equipment in the floor area of the vehicle produces a low centre of gravity, which has a positive effect
on handling.
the Saphir comfort easily fits into the stowage compartments of caravans and mobile homes
like all Truma air conditioning units, the Saphir comfort has a closed, maintenance-free refrigeration circuit.

Hello Red One,

Have not yet found out what the cost is for fitting, But it looks like you may be able to by the unit and fit it under
one of the seats and just add some ducting and just have a lead to the nearest 13amp socket.

http://www.swift-owners-club.co.uk/soc1/tips/aircon.html

If you go for one would be interested in knowing the costs involved, have not yet got around to calling any companies.

Lionel
