Hello,

being both new to the field of detecting and to this newsgroup, I
would like to ask you for advise:
It is time for me to get my first metal detector. I am thinking about
buying the Minelab Musketeer XS Pro.

Is this a good decision for a beginner?

I also heard rumors that there may be a new detector coming out soon
("Minelab Advantage"?). If this is true, is it worthwile to wait for
it and does anyone know the approximate price for it?

Thank you very much for your help with this.

Cheers

Hi There

I owned a musketeer XS, but not the pro, the difference there is coil size
and no rechargable battries, the pro has the chargable batts and a 10 inch
coil as opposed to the 8 inch. The Musketeer is an excellent machine with
good discrimination, and a reasonable depth, i had some nice finds.
Compared to the new advantage, all i can actually see as a difference is the
batteries are NiMH instead of Nicads, also there is a reduction in the
wieght, and maybe a nicer looking control box if that matters to you. So i
would think that the musketeer XS will reduce in price, when the advantage
is released for sale. If the advantage follows the Musky XS then it will be
a good machine, the other machine in the same price range is a laser rapier
which is slightly more sensitive, but does not quite as deep seeking the
laser is remarkably light compared to a lot of detectors I have used both of
these machines, another i looked at was the whites classic range, but have
no experience of these. I now use a Explorer XS, which is a remarkable
piece of technology. These are only my personal preferences, good luck
with what you choose.

all the best

Richard

Hi,

Yes it's the SD2100 Advantage. Don't wait 'cos it'll cost over £1500!!!

The musketeer is an EXCELLENT choice. Get the 10" coil though. The depth is
the BEST I've seen from ANY detector in this price range.

They DO have a few faults, but only VERY rarely do these appear.
