Apart from obvious visible differences, i.e. size, shape, mounting system
etc are there any differences between a 300 and a One in terms of features,
POI downloading, maps etc. I have had a look at a 300 and can't see
anything but have I missed something.

I help a friend, who has a transport firm and has five 300s, to keep his
POIs ( Low Bridges, Congestion zones etc) up to date. He is wondering that
if he buys more SatNav devices to go for the cheaper Ones.

Any observations will be welcome.

Thanks.

The POI downloading and maps are exactly the same.

The One is actually better than the 300 in an important way, it is
much more sensitive. I can get a lock behind problem windscreens
(without external aerials) and indoors.

The only downsides of the One are:

- shorter battery life than the 300 (though it still lasts three
hours)
- speaker isn't quite a clear (though still plenty clear enough)

Unless you really need to run for more than 3 hours without external
power I can't think of any reason to get the 300.

One other minor difference - which may or may not matter - is that the ONE's
power cable plugs into the device itself rather than into the cradle - so
there's one more thing to connect/disconnect every time you take it in or
out of the vehicle.

But OTOH it is generally regarded as a bad idea to leave the cradle
visible in the car anyway.

Both are good devices, it is mostly a matter of preference. The 300 is
better on battery life and speakers, so if that is of importance to
your friend, he may be better sticking with what works. But both have
good maps and directions, so can't really lose in that regard either
way.

Apart from taking the cradle out of the car, wipe the circular suction-cup
rings from the windscreen as well. Those rings spell TomTom to any thief
!!!

Then of course you run in the problem of people targetting cars with
an odd clean patch in the middle of the windscreen...
