The following movies all have their own narrative questions that drive their plots forward, but the real genius of Dead Man's Chest, and what makes it such a great sequel, is that it turns the question from the first movie, "What is Jack going to do next?" into "Will the next thing Jack does be the right thing?"

The primary narrative question, which has carried us through all three movies and evolved with every entry, has now been answered in its totality. We've answered the question "What's this untrustworthy and selfish pirate going to do next," with "He'll forgo immortality to save his friends."

As soon as Will sees Jack, he says, "Pirate!" Jack looks at him confusedly and says, "You seem familiar. Have I threatened you before?" Will looks at Jack with disgust, and snidely says, "I make a point of avoiding familiarity with pirates." Jack seems unrepentant and responds, "Ah, then it would be a shame to put a black mark on your record." Will tries to stop Jack from escaping and leaving his shop, so they get into a sword fight. Eventually, Jack is captured after the shop owner smashes a bottle on his head, causing Jack to faint.

Pirates of the Caribbean was a welcome relief to audiences after several movies in the pirate genre were declared flops at the Box Office. This movie had everything from gorgeous heroines, myths, legends, dashing heroes trying to save the damsel in distress, mean-looking pirates, and the swashbuckling, eccentric character of Captain Jack Sparrow. The movie glides gracefully from one scene to the next without audiences losing interest or getting bored.

Pirates of the Caribbean 6 updates have kept the continuation of the Disney franchise alive despite a considerable hiatus since the last entry. How the Pirates of the Caribbean story will continue, and whether Johnny Depp will return remains a mystery though. When Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl was released, its enormous success was unexpected. Before 2003, pirate movies were seen as guaranteed box office flops, but the franchise has remained popular ever since, constantly proving its international mass appeal and earning Depp an Oscar nomination for his role as Jack Sparrow.

Many were confused that there were two Pirates movies in the mix, one of them being led by Margot Robbie and an all-female pirate crew. However, Robbie's project has been canceled. Apparently, the all-female pirate story was not meant to be Pirates of the Caribbean 6, but rather, its own property penned by Christina Hodson, who also wrote Birds of Prey. The two were first attached to the project in 2020, but for reasons unknown, Disney decided not to give the film a chance, which at least clears up the confusion around the multiple new Pirates of the Caribbean movies.

Colin McCormick is a Senior Writer with Screen Rant and has been a proud member of the team since 2019. In addition to his work as Screen Rant, Colin is also a writer of News, Feature and Review pieces at Game Rant. Colin has had a long passion and obsession with movies going back to the first time he saw The Lion King in theaters. Along with movies, Colin stays up-to-date on the latest must-see TV shows. While he loves to find interesting projects in any kind of genre, he has a special movie of crime stories that are infused with a little dark humor much like the work of his favorite author, Elmore Leonard.

One of the greatest parts of the movies are the settings in which they take place. The first movie was filmed in St. Vincent and they could not have picked a better place to set the movie. The beauty of the surroundings alone was amazing enough to win an Academy Award. The following films were filmed in a variety of locations that include Dominica, Bahamas, California, and Hawaii. The cast even helped pick some of the locations where they filmed. When watching a movie that is filmed by the sea, I automatically fall in love with it and this is no exception.

Orlando Bloom shot to fame with his role as Legolas in Peter Jackson's "The Lord of the Rings" series. The cast of the fellowship in those movies all got tattoos to commemorate their time on the films, with Bloom getting his done in Elvish.

Elizabeth takes more action herself in this sequel, and that involves fooling a bunch of superstitious pirates into sailing to Tortuga. She does this by pretending to be a spirit aboard the ship, and lights up the word Tortuga in flame upon the deck.

After being picked up on Tortuga drunk and down on his luck, he joins Jack's crew. Here, he's put to work straight away and is made to mop the deck. But while other pirates use cloths, Norrington uses his old commodore wig.

These lockets also match up with Davy Jones' chest. All three items are crab-themed, it seems. It's not surprising that Jones' chest would bear a resemblance to the man himself, who has a crab claw in place of an arm, but it's neat to see the design continuity across the movies.

These are both from Disney's iconic ride, and they actually pop up throughout the movies. Jack and Elizabeth sing "Pirates Life For Me" together while stranded on the island in "The Curse of the Black Pearl," while Cotton's parrot says, "dead men tell no tales" when they look for Isla de Muerta in the same movie.

One of them is a Mickey Mouse tattoo, while the other is a tattoo of a sea turtle. Sea turtles are notable in "Pirates" movies thanks to Jack's famous story of him apparently escaping an island by riding sea turtles strapped to his feet.

With no update on a potential Pirates of the Caribbean return to the big screen, whether through a sixth instalment or a spin-off, we've got no choice but to keep watching the original Pirates of the Caribbean movies in order.

If you've got a hankering to rewatch the original movies, or you're a newbie looking to experience them for the first time, the good news is that Pirates is a pretty accessible franchise. Unlike trying to follow the other Disney-owned franchises, like the Marvel movies in order or watch Star Wars in order, the Pirates of the Caribbean timeline is pretty straightforward.

For example, the four Hunger Games movies, which are based on the novels by Suzanne Collins, are one film series. These films all take place during the same timeline, in the Hunger Games universe and were marketed as a series of interconnected movies.

In addition to canonical series, CNBC is also including franchises based on iconic characters. The movies themselves may or may not be connected in one timeline, but the films are centered around one specific character. James Bond is one example of this.

Since the debut of "Curse of the Black Pearl," Disney has released five Pirates of the Caribbean movies globally. The film franchise, based on the popular theme park attraction, has generated more than $4.52 billion worldwide.

While these movies are not interconnected in the same way that other film series are, Batman is so iconic that his standalone projects are often grouped together into one franchise. CNBC opted not to include "Justice League" in the franchise, as it is a team-up film. "Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice" has been included because Batman is named in the title of the film.
