Using (up) ericaceous compost

Apologies if I have posted this before but my newsreader has been playing
up. My question is, can ericaceous compost be used for general use eg
potting up sunflowers?

Thanks - although I have been a bit wary of using bonemeal after too many
visits from the local foxes. Still, may reduce complaints from the person
who has to carry the bags of compost from the car into the shed.
