It's more complicated than that - I'd rather see limestone pavement stay in
situ along with the wildlife that depends on it, but assuming there's a
market for it I'd rather see people earn a living quarrying Shap granite
than being paid my taxes as dole money, or forced to work as tour guides in
'DisneyLakes'.

What type of stone in what sort of quantities? There's all
sorts of different 'stone' up in "lakeland" (Gawd, that's a horrible
term!)

Its a friend of mine, (no internet access), he says mainly from slate
quarries for rockeries, landscaping etc. Most probably green slate. I'd have
to ask him regarding quantities.
