Invite a couple of contractors around to take a peek. Ply them
with tea and Gypsy Creams and see what they have to say. If it's too
costly, at least you'll have some idea of what needs to be done, and
how they'd go about doing it.
From what little info you've given, I'd suggest stripping off
the topsoil, laying a run of gabions at the lower end and then
re-grading the sub-soil with the aid of a mini-digger, before
replacing the top soil.
