No idea, I'm afraid. But your best bet would be to write to the RHS and ask
them, I'd think. Even then, don't be too hopeful. Many plant
breeders/discoverers name plants after people who are not well known.

accurate info about the crocosmia origin. David Fenwick has a web site

There is also a book called something like 'Look who's in your garden'
but I cannot remember the name of the author and I ought to, I've sent
