My first proper day in the garden this spring!!
Having a good clearout of dead stuff and my Heuchera "Plum Pudding"
came away in my hand!! May have been slugs that chewed it off at
ground level. I have separated 5 or so sections which have some fine
new white roots on them, and temporarily plunged them in some soil to
stop them drying up (the rain started!!).
How deep should I plant them? Any other tips? I read that Heucheras
tend to push themselves out of the ground after a few years, so maybe
I shouldn't blame the slugs.

Some of mine did that the other year, I just scraped a hole and bunged them
back in. I reckon you should plant them so that just the tops are showing.
If you mulch them every year this is less of a problem.

Are you sure it wasn't Vine Evils?
