Does anyone have any eucalyptus which flowers in the UK, and of so
does it set viable seed, and can it self-seed here?

Hello,
My E. Gunnii has lots of flowers and seeds but nothing has sprouted out of
the ground.
There is / was a specialist Eucalypt nursery near Corwen in North Wales but
the name escapes me...

Regards,
Daniel (Chester)

When you say nothing has sprouted from the ground, I wonder if you are
expecting seedlings?
If so then you must remember that what you see are seed capsules and it will
take a fire/smoke to get the capsule to release the seed, and only then, if
it is viable will you get any chance of seedlings.

I have E. aggregata which flowers and fruits but I gather the seed capsules
remain on the tree two years before ripening and Eucalyptus seed is
difficult to clean from the chaff. I have certainly grown Eucalypts from
local seed. so if you have some give it a go (won't grow unless you sow
it!!!) :~)

I have a eucaluptus grown from seed. It is a slender tree which produces
flowers. It also produced a seeding which I lost when I potted it up.

I have a Eucalyptus gunni. I know with the seeds you have moisten and
leave them in vercumulite in a plastic bag in the fridge (bottom of) for
4-6 weeks - stratification they call it. So that the seeds think there
has been a winter. Take them out and plant in pots and the warmer
temperature should start them off.
