Any advice/suggestions would be gratefully recieved as this is a fantastic
and very well loved horse.
Thanks
My older chap (15) has a bone spavin in his hock, he was diagnosed with
it three years ago. He was intermittantly unsound with it in the first
year, but was not unrideable and my vet at the time, said that it would
only be an issue until the bone fuses and then he will go sound again.
Which he now has. I had to work him when he was lame as this encouraged
the bones in the hock to fuse quicker. He is now sound although he is
stiff in the mornings on it. He wouldn't eat the bute unfortunately :(
I have also put him on glucosamine and condroitin supplement too and
this also seems to help with the stiffness.
Spavins are tricky, some horses are never fully sound again, but my
horse was lucky and he can now still do everything he could before just
a bit slower :D.
I hope that this horse makes a recovery and his owners have my
sympathies as it can be quite distressing when they are lame.
