Just moved horsies to new stables. It's single skin 4 inch blockwork, not
rendered, and in the driving rain a lot of damp is coming through on the
courses and some of the blocks. Relative merits of silicone and masonry paint?
I have a compressor so could spray given that it's about 80 square metres.

Thompsons Water Seal - does what it says on the tin!
Sorry I couldnt resist that:-) But it does work, we've just used it on our
single brick porch.

You have to be careful with waterproofing stuff - it also slows down the
drying out process.
It is better IMO to let it get really wet in bad rain and dry out within a
few days than have it constantly slightly damp. Depends on your particular
problem and how airy the stall is

Just a thought ... erect some weatherboard pannelling close to the outside
of the wall?

Fair point, but I am also getting penetration on the "door" side in spite of a
decent overhang; also it is rented stables, so while I don't mind a spot of
painting or spraying, weatherboarding is quite an "improvement". Thanks also
for other comments. At the moment it is one vote for silicone, one for masonry
paint....
