There's nothing particularly special about Tuesday - that's the 17 October.
It's just an ordinary day, but you can make it special by keeping a blog or
diary for just one day.
The aim is to create the biggest ever blog throughout Britain, and by taking
part you can contribute to a day in history.
Organisers hope it will provide a useful archive for generations in the
future.
If you want to find out how to take part, follow the link below to the
History Matters website - you can get all the information you need.
How you can get involved :
First, record a diary of your day on October 17. It can be anything from 100
to 650 words long.
Log on to the History Matters website and follow the instructions on how to
upload your blog/diary
http://www.historymatters.org.uk/output/Page1.asp
Diaries can be uploaded from 17 to 31 October 2006
Urge friends, family and colleagues to do the same!
Watch the History Matters website for details of how the archive can be
accessed in the future
'One Day in History' is a one off opportunity for you to join in a mass blog
for the national record. We want as many people as possible to record a
'blog' diary which will be stored by the British Library as a historical
record of our national life.

Oops, missed it! As it's now 22:45 BST and I'm reading this for the
first time, I suspect there's not a lot of point in starting a blog now.
Had I been reading it at 22:45 yesterday, however,.....

"Yes - but as someone touting for business [ie complete stranger to the
group
"requiring" feedback" - which could be construed as spamming] "
It just made me laugh to see a link to your site on your posts.
I have a signature - yes
But I don't tout for business in here.
I have been involved in horses and ponies since I was about 3 years old. I
no longer have any of my own, but have two liveries, sell animal feed, and
have many friends with ponies. [sadly two fewer as of last night, having
spent several hours trying, unsuccessfullly, to save the life of one which
means my friend will put its companion of 33 years down too, really gutted]
I enjoy reading about others exploits and chatting about things
occasionally.
In another place I spend a lot of time helping newcomers and folks with
problems with their poultry. I could spend a lot of time "selling" but I
don't. Mostly the only times I mention what I sell directly, is to folks who
are not in this country to try and explain what they should look for.
There is a netiquette about advertising in most newsgroups -- signatures
marketing ones products are acceptable attached to posts which are not sales
pitches. The general advice is to get involved in a group before asking them
to do something that is commerically based.
If you had got involved in the general chit chat, had the site as a
signature and then a few weeks on asked everyone for their opinion about a
"new" site, then the thought of spamming would have never crossed my or
anyone elses mind
If it takes you 2 months to check on a post you made maybe you need to check
up on who is guiding you about your internet marketing.
Good luck in your enterprise. This is a great group, so if you have a real
interest in horses, join in with the chat and include your own signature
when you have a site you want to publicise.
