Why the threashold is set at £100 is another question :-)

No, you just have to hunt three days a week to get the right to wear a red
jacket.

There are some player who wear red jacket at equestrian game.
otherwise, some player wear black jacket.
I am very curious about this. what is the meaning of black&red jacket?
I was told that only worldcup qualifier have the right to wear this red
jacket. Is it right?
Thanks,
Robert
Red coats originally arose in the hunting field in England in the
mid-18th century. Officers on leave would go out hunting in uniform, and
after a while the civilain hunt coats were made in scarlet as well, as it
was highly visible in the winter countryside.Women always wore black
habits from the 19th century on , although early on some would wear a
jacket in their hisband's regimental colours, if he was associated with a
county regiment. As the first showjumpers were hunting people or serving
soldiers they naturally wore either the dress they would wear hunting or
uniform - hence the modern scarlet show jacket. Irish riders wear dark
green, and look very smart ,too. The American and Canadian team ladies wear
scarlet ,which strictly speaking and according to hunting etiquette is a
complete no-no. My husband is ex-army,strongly traditional and loathes the
American ladies' jackets. We always seem to have arguments watching
international competitions about coats ! However personally speaking I do
strongly feel that nothing is as stylish and elegant on a lady rider as a
well-cut black jacket. (Who makes the American team coats anyway ?They
always seem too short in the arm...!) When I saw Ginnie Holgate and
Karen Stives together on the third day at the L.A. Olympics, for example,
there was no question as to who looked more elegant!
With most showjumpers trying to get sponsorship these days, they
,understandably, want the right to wear their sponsor's colours. I can see
their point, but I do feel the Whitaker/Virtual Village purple is rather
ugly ! I would hate to see show-jumping end up like Grand Prix motorcar
racing, with riders plastered with ugly and clashing sponsorship patches.
Any male showjumper riding at Open level and up can wear a red jacket,
and the qualifications are no longer the same as those to wear one
hunting.Wearing one at a level below that is considered over-dressing.
With regards,
Dee

No, that isn't correct - you do not have to hunt to wear a red 'Pink'
jacket. It is normally requested by the show's organisers in classes of
high monetary value usually over , but now increasingly only in
classes of much higher value. I am sure the tradition originates from
hunting but you do not have to do it (fortunately) to wear a jacket.

Except the ones who are serving army officers like John Ledingham,
who wear uniform. I can't remember ever seeing any army officers
from other countries though.
And are farmers allowed to wear tweed jackets when showjumping?

Presumably with breeches held up with baler twine? :-)

The dress code for show-jumping no longer takes hunting into account.
(Hence the plain white ties on men, instead of a hunting stock) Farmers
wear what everyone else wears in showjumping, depending on the value of the
class.
Hope this helps, and we aren't totally confusing the original poster...
