Great day at Exeter races yesterday, coincidently in the O&T's bar I met the
yard owner & Gerry's owner (at last) who is a really nice bloke. Turns out
most of this delay was not just his holiday, he was having second thoughts
as he was attached to the horse - fair enough! He was in a good mood as one
of his horses had just come second and wished me luck - then retracted it as
he said "I wont need any luck as he's a great horse" - how nice (but I could
also do with some luck - who couldn't).

Gerry loaded perfectly this morning without any fuss. He's currently on the
A303 as they had to pick another horse up on the way.

Should arrive at my yard in a few hours.

I've got his passport, he is by Gildoran out of Portway. How do I look up
the details on his parents history?

Mark

Great, are you going to be there? (as if I don't really know the answer!)

Gawd knows, but I came across this, if you can make any sense out of it...

He's related to Lara (via Northern Dancer) bound to be a good 'un then :-)

Del Mar pedigree site. I don't have the URL to hand right now. I'll get
it later or you could ask PetraI know she has used it.

Hmphh, does he LIVE at the Races ??
My SO met him at the races last week and was told the same thing ( That he may
not sell him after all ) ... By the time I was told this over the phone you'd
already bought him, so I didn't panic (too much )

HAVE FUN !!!

Because he was a good Racehorse.

Contrary to popular belief whatever a horse's RACING pedigree is like is
entirely irrelevant once he changes career and becomes a "normal" horse.

In fact what makes the best Racehorses (in other words FASTEST) often makes
them LESS likely to be great at Dressage and SJ .

Not for nothing are the great TB competition horse sires often bred anything
but "in the purple" in Racing terms, and the best Racing Sires feature less
often in Competition horse pedigrees ...

There's obviously also the fact that no competition horse breeder could afford
the studfees for the top Racing sires, the most expensive Warmblood stallions
are still less in terms of Studfee than even a lower class Racing sire.

Del Mar is at:

http://www.dmtc.com/dmtc98/Pedigree/

Enter the horse's name in the box at the top, and the details appear on the
left. You can then click on that to see full details (and also often
pictures)

On a different topic, took Padre Island show jumping today to Louth, and jumped
the intermediate with her - 3 foot, we had one down, but she jumped REALLY well
- this is the first time she has jumped a class bigger than 2'6, so I am very
pleased with her!!

Because he was a fantatsic sire. And his son Sadlers Wells is
responsible for more classic winners than any other horse
