Hi Martin, I have about 20 years of SE magazine on the shelf.
I have tried to purchase the odd copy from Smiths but they never stock it!
How do you find somewhere to buy the occasional copy from?

My local smiths stock it and sometimes so does other big newsagents. I live
near Bedford.
You will find relevant literature inside front cover of Stationary
Engine Magazine as suggested by another list member. Additionally the
publisher of the literature has a web site at -
http://www.stationaryenginebooks.co.uk/about.htm
Belt drive pulleys seem to be like gold dust - almost all new purchasers
seem to need one (I need another for a WD1).
Starting handles were a bit flimsy compared to some, so again often
missing - could be fabricated from a few bits of steel and tube - I
could provide photos of mine if you get stuck long term.
Colour green - probably standard Brunswick Green - mine as seen on my
web site is in Crossley green, but that is planned only to be a base
coat and will eventually be painted over.
If you take out the crankshaft and damage the main bearings like I did
through not removing all the keyway burrs, I have replacements available
(info on the web site).
Your engine was one of the last 1000 - WD2's made - serial numbers range
from 7000 (March 1945) to 24004 (March 1949).
See my web site for photos of no 13085.
Welcome to the hobby/obsession...............

What I need to know about the starting handle is the shape depth of
the groove ie stop your wrist from being broke on take off..
So total things needed..Start Handle...Drive pulley..Start
Guard..Something to drive ( This could be already be fullfilled) And a
source of Stationary Mag still looking I know I can subscribe on line
but that's not part of the hunt!
Ho, Do I leave as found or Paint? Thats the question!
Once again thank you for your help very much appreciated.
Regards for the New Year yours P Greaves....(Well hooked & looking
for a .... Whats that dear? Time to go...I'm coming.)
Nice to see you got it running, don't worry about using addative the engine
wasn't built to run on leaded so straight unleaded will do nicely.
Can anybody help....either with dimensions or actual supply a drive
pulley for a Wolseley WD II Also the cover for the starting handle.
Once again dimensions or parts please.
Thanking you in anticipation..P J Greaves.
Ref the Wolseley WD II posting :- I have a starting handle sleeve
cover ) but is from a WD8 I believe they may be the same. It is possible
I also have a pulley but I need to dig a little deeper in the junk box. If
you want more details let me know.

Possibly not - the crankshaft was increased from 1.25" to 1.5" diameter
between WD2 and WD8.
Just went outside to see if I could get at the starting handle "cover"
on my WD2 - unfortunately its not accessible due to the engine being
behind another and the offending item is hiding close up to the back
wall.
To the best of my recollection the item is a simple rolled sleeve which
is a push fit into a spigot in the oil seal cover. Its length is about
1/8" longer than the crankshaft and there is a hole at the same distance
from the end as the pin which engages the starting handle dog.
I'm considering making a pulley by welding an iron pipe coupling sleeve
to an appropriately machined blank pipe flange drilled to match the
holes in the flywheel.
The starting handle sleeve on the WD2 is indeed different to the one on
the WD8 as the crank diameter is 1/4" smaller. There is however a little
dodge you can use on the WD2 if you dont hold too rigidly to originality.
If I recall correctly it is 40mm domestic PVC waste pipe that is close to
fitting on to the flange which holds on the crankshaft seal,it just needs
a little ream out to make it fit and if you give it a rough up with wire
wool the paint will stick to it when you paint your engine.I get more
calls asking if I have a spare pulley than for any other part.I suspect
that alot of these engines ended up doing jobs which ended up with the
pulleys being thrown off and chain sprockets being fitted and the pulleys
evaporated into history. The other thing that makes them hard to pick up
is that they also fit Ruston PT and maybe PB so for every pulley that
appears there are a few people after it and the dealers/breakers know
this and price them accordingly.
