As it says in the subject, which is better Gore Windstopper or Polartec
windbloc? Why? From previous experience it seems that Gore Windstopper
is/was used on the more expensive jacket whilst Polartec Windbloc is/was
used on cheap and cheerful jackets. I'm curious since I'm looking to
purchase a 99 Karrimor Alpiniste Windbloc jacket and to date have only
experienced Gore Windstopper. I suppose the above begs the
question...any opinions on the Alpiniste Windbloc??

Cheers.

I have a Karrimor super alpiniste jacket. this is the same as the alpiniste
but with abrasion resistant shoulders (for backpacking etc).
This jacket has gore windstopper fleece on the inside and polartec fleece on
the out side. It is also only windproof (gore windstopper fleece) on the
front panel (chest).
i use mine for hiking/mountaineering. i stopped using it for cycling because
it was too hot, even in very cold weather. Windproof fleece does not keep you
warm when it is wet with sweat!!.
I use a helly hansen top (arctic) with a sprayway impulse jacket for
windproof/waterproof/breathable layer.
helly hansen tops are very high wicking. They soak up very little sweat.
