The original post was the over dramatic "Rider down in Victoria Street
London SW1".

"She was killed during morning rush-hour traffic in central London as a
tipper truck turned left into Victoria Street.

The driver of the lorry stopped but no arrests have been made".

Happened to meet one of the investigating officers today. The lorry had
it's indicator on, a sign on the back warning cyclists not to undertake
and a audible warning that the vehicle was turning left.

I never undertake lorries unless they are *fully* stopped. Indicator,
warning or not.

Lacking the intellectual ability to comment on the cyclists Darwinian
actions, Justipoo's tries to be clever & pick on a typo.

But screws it up.`

The same letter being 'n'.

So, did you mean to say;

"that you a cunt below the average"?

Or perhaps;

"that you an cut below the average".

Neither of which make any sense at all.

Mind you, someone who claims to be an English teacher & constructs
sentences like;

"those not liable to pay have can use the roads at will"

"over grit and salt in it?"

"One only look at recent events in Scotland."

"has saved my thousands of pounds"

"transported me of the highest Alpine passes"

"You will ensure that if lives up to your expectations will you not?"

Is simply bound to make a fool of himself.

Even that is not safe or advisable, especially at a junction. The only
workable simple rule is "never overtake on the nearside, not never, not
nohow".

Oh goody, it's the "missing words" round again.

I could string a better sentence together by feeding Scrabble tiles to my
dog and writing the letters down in the order he shits them out. Appalling,
and even more so when we all know you're proofreading your posts and running
them through a spellchecker after your previous dismal failures at written
English.

And drop the tough guy act, while it would be hugely satisfying to come to
"Harwich 22 July at eight o' clock in the evening" and kick you squarely
in your shrivelled nuts, it's really not worth the time or expense. You've
probably got 999 on speed-dial for such an eventuality anyway.

Too right.

But we're at a situation now where we've conceded so much to cyclists, many
of them feel a sense of automatic priority entitlement to be in front of
everyone else, and think they have the right not to be knocked off when they
perform stupid or reckless actions. We've made them feel so special with
their silly little ASLs and cycle lanes, that we've also made them oblivious
to their own responsibilities.

Sounds like some education would not go amiss, have any of the major
political parties expressed any interest in stopping this carnage by
restricting cyclists rights to endanger and inconvenience the rest of us
who after all are the overwhelming majority?

The biased reporter goes on to the oft quoted cyclists defence gambit "Road
Tax" doesn't exist. In spite of the DVLA asking me to buy road tax on
their website.

There seem to be no reason why cyclists should not be registered and forced
to pass some sort of suitability assessment,

In clearly defined residential areas usually where there are 20 mph vehicle
speed limits and pedestrianised areas not specifically banned to cyclists
then unlicensed cycle use should be allowed, this will allow for children
to learn and play. Main roads, A roads and designated B roads cyclists
should be allowed provided they have passed the test and are displaying
proof, Some roads should be banned to all cyclists, main dual carriage way
trunk roads for example.

These measures will save some lives at little cost, other than to cyclists,
cause minimum inconvenience to the majority and open a door for compulsory
third party insurance. We have been repeatedly assured in this cycling
newsgroup cycling is so safe that wearing a safety helmet makes it more
risky then the insurance premiums will be tiny.

Justipoo's won't turn up anyway. He has a history of doing this. He
pretends he will be at a certain location - most of which don't actually
exist.

For example, he wanted me to meet him (I think he might fancy me) &
chose a hotel in Dover. He then claimed he had cycled past 6 times -
and apparently didn't notice it had completely changed it's name.

You should have seen the wriggling that went on after that.

So what exactly did you, a cyclist, "ride" past the non existent hotel
on then?

A horse?
A surfboard
Roller skates?

So, a known cyclist, posting on a cycling group uses the exact phrase "I
rode and drove back and forth several times".

Now, since this cyclist also claims to be a teacher of English & an all
round expert, we must assume the use of both terms "rode" and "drove"
mean different things.

Otherwise you would have said "I drove back and forth" and not "I rode
and drove back and forth" which clearly means you did both.

Actually, you did neither, because you weren't there.

''As the severity of the injury increased the benefit of wearing a
helmet increased, which is very hard to ignore I think,'' Dr Olivier said.

Results showed that cyclists without helmets were more than 3.9 times as
likely to sustain a head injury to those with helmets. Helmets reduced
the risk of moderate head injury by 49 per cent, of serious head injury
by 62 per cent, and of severe head injury by 74 per cent".

to ride a bike."
