=> Does anyone know what's become of one of the big names of British

From what I can recall, he signed for TEKA in Spain round about the same
time that Malcolm Elliot did, had a bad season with them and then quickly
reverted to amateur status. I think he's now a taxi driver somewhere or
other and has completely given up cycling.
HTH.

Maybe I am confusing him with someone else, but didn't he have problems
with his heart?

Yes, that'd be Dave Lloyd.

Yes THE Dave Lloyd did have heart problems when a pro with Raleigh, but
another with heart problems was Dave Akam.
Dave Lloyd, (not THE Dave Lloyd unfortunately) Walsall RCC.
Dave Akam reappeared this year winning just about every time trial that he
rode. In an article in Cycling Weekly he attributed his health problems to
his Liver and Hepatitis.

I don't know about you, but I'm thinking about
a - giving up cycling
or
b - changing my name.
Sounds too dangerous for people called Dave.
The last I heard, he was of running a taxi business -
Some years ago I was talking to a very famous cycling commentator at the
hamper race in Carrick-on-Suir and I asked him how Darryl who was the bees
knees at TT would do as a road racer. He had just turned Pro.
"He will have no success", he told me. "He has no racing brain and doesn't
understand road racing", he told me. How right he was.
