I can only compare a pair of NorthWave shoes that I bought 10 years ago
to a similar pair of Shimano shoes that I bought a couple of years
later. The sizing was very similar, with the Shimano shoes /possibly/
being slightly narrower.

(The NorthWave shoes, surprisingly enough, are still going. The Shimano
shoes are unusable until I manage to drill out the stuck bolt for the
cleat that needs replacing).

I think they are fairly similar sizing.
I think my Shimano shoes are size 44, and my Northwave winter boots are
45, both fit me fine. Though that does allow for thick socks with the boots.

Whereas my Shimano sandals are 41-42 - I think the sizing of the sandals
is rather different (bigger) than any other Shimano shoes.

Northwave are wider in the ball of the foot, in my experience, which
means I take at least one size smaller in Northwave (and they fit better).

The Northwave Fahrenheit winter boots I have, are fantastic, but I'd say
go with what fits your foot best, tightness is a major contributor to
cold feet.

The more I look into foot shape and preferred shoes the more I am
convinced that there is simply no substitute for trying on, because feet
are complex 3d shapes to the point that "oh, these are wider" really
doesn't mean much.

Which is a shame...

Pete.

Funny, I'm in exactly the same situation as the OP and was considering
asking exactly the same question! My Shimano boots are size 42 and a
bit snug on the toes, so going by what people here have written,
probably the Northwave 42 would fit well.

Pete, it would be nice to try them on, but I don't know of anyone
around here that carries them!

A perennial problem for mail order footwear if there aren't real
examples to play with.
But the problem remains, and I don't think there's any way around being
prepared to pay some extra postage to send things back if you want the
best available fit on shoes/boots. It might cost more, but it's more
reliable than "I have wide feet and I like Brand X".
