I've been looking at Mountain bikes for both my wife and I and have decided
to go for the "Ridgeback 604 SLX" for my wife and the "Ridgeback 605 SLX"
for myself. Could anyone tell me if this is a good brand and model for
occasional leisure use. (road and dirt track)

Thanks for any advice given

I own a Ridgeback 602GS that I bought 5 years ago - cost me 200 quid
(reduced from 300) and has served me very well with no major technical
problems other that a new wheel wheel (after a couple of thousand miles)
and a new spindle the other week.

Still going strong - great bike.

Thanks for the advice Jonathon. I think I had already made my mind up about
Ridgeback but was looking for reassurance from owners like yourself who know
a lot more about bikes than I do.
Thanks again
Bubba

Fairly unexciting bikes usually but good value for money in the component area.
Ridgeback are owned by Madisun who are UK importers for Shimano. At one point
in the mid 90's the cheapest way to get a full XTR component group was to buy a
Ridgeback and junk the rest of the bike.

You've now got me wondering if I've made the right choice (the bikes are
ordered). I pick them up on Saturday

I think you've made the right choice. I had the 605 slx, and it was a lovely bike.
