Painting a wooden kitchen chair

I am thinking of buying an unfinished woodchair to use as a kitchen
chair (to be used). I want to paint it a solid color and paint some
sunflowers on it. I would like to know what type of paint to use and
if I need to shellack or clear coat it with anything after.

24 hours then do a second. I would do the sunflowers in acrylics let that
dry then cover all with a couple coats of matte varnish. Good luck.

I did this some years ago. I painted a pine rocking chair with
undercoat and then gloss and when that was dry I painted the
flowers with artist's acrylics followed by a clear coat of
colourless polyurethane. This was 25 years ago and the chair
still looks great. However, you could use eggshell or any
other finish if you don't want gloss. Whatever you choose
to use be sure to varnish at the end.

We just used ordinary acrylics and then a clear varnish - water based.
