This is an off-chance query...

Just wondering if anybody has unwanted wins lying around ... stencils,
paint, stencilling brushes etc. ?

I'm involved in a volunteer project under the Leeds Cares scheme (see
http://www.leedscares.org.uk). My employer, Leeds Met University is
partnered with a special school in Leeds - the Elmete Wood school in
Roundhay.

There are some Action Days happening on June 7/8/9. I am a team leader
for staff from our Academic Registry and am responsible for two
projects. One of the projects is to do some internal painting -
corridors and classrooms. To make the day more interesting for
volunteers (and to do something even nicer for the children) I fancy
decorating the walls with some (easy!) paint effects. So am seeking
stencilling materials. Our creative people are fully stretched painting
murals in the School Hall - we decorators need something very easy to
do...

The kids at the school are all statemented for learning difficulties,
mainly literacy. Over 50% of them have "challenging or complex
behaviours". They come from very disadvantaged areas in the North East
of the city and many of them come from families with criminal
backgrounds. The school has therefore suffered from vandalism and
destructive behaviour in the past.

Over the last few years, since volunteer projects began, the school has
found that the childrens' behaviour has improved as their environment
has improved. So ... the nicer we make it, the better behaved they
become and the more they learn! Satisfying, isn't it?

So .... PLEASE - if you have any of these craft materials lying around,
maybe from a win where you were looking for a different prize, PLEASE -
may I have them? :-}

All the school's funding goes on mainstream activities like teaching -
they can't resource these major projects themselves. Goes without saying
- that I, personally, am not able to pay for materials/transport. I'm
relying on big hearts folks.

Thanks for listening.

PS - this is where any spare wins of mine will be going if I win any
more TVs/Video/DVD/PC equipment etc.

If you have no luck you could try uk.rec.crafts to see if anyone there has
any they'd like to donate. Worth a try - it's a really worthwhile cause - I
just wish I could help personally. Very best of luck with the project!

Sounds like a great project! I'm sorry I don't have any supplies for you.
However, it is possible to make your own stencils, cutting them out of acetate or
even card. You can cut them out with a craft knife/scalpel.

Sorry I can't be of more help,
Erin

That's a good idea. Thank you.

I'm really looking forward to the Action Day - should be a heap of fun.

Unfortunately that assumes some degree of artistic aptitude ... this is
me that we are talking about! %-}
