Many years ago I bought a magazine called Home and Freezer digest and
it had a recipe for a Christmas Cake by Mary Berry, I have made it for
over 20 years BUT I've lost the recipe.

Does anyone have a copy of the recipe I know that you soak the fruit
in the brandy for three days but that's all that I can remember.

(I'm secretly hoping that Jane will have a copy of this in her
drawers)

TIA

I have some Home and Freezer Digests at home. Don't know if I kept any
Christmas issues, but I was a great fan of Mary Berry's big bake ins (then I
put on weight and stopped eating cake). I'll have a look tonight and see if
I can find the christmas cake recipe. If so I'll email it to you.

She did some marvellous count-down guides for mass catering events such as
weddings and christenings. Thanks for reminding me of her.

I miss Home and Freezer Digest - my first two wins were a vacuum cleaner and
a microwave from them. I suspect that whoever was judging had a similar
sense of humour to myself.

Jill

PS - Just looked on Google - she has a webpage but no christmas cake as far
as I can see.

Sh! I've got them all thinking the contents of my drawers are *far*
more interesting than that!

I have got an old Mary Berry recipe from H&FD, in fact it's the one I
nearly always use, but it's from about 1980 and the fruit is just
soaked overnight in sherry. Is that any use to you?

I may have it. I have a 'celebration cake', which later mentions how
to ice it for christmas. It's from the New Mary Berry Cake Book.
It soaks the fruit for 'at least three days', but it's in sherry, not
brandy. Not that it would make a difference if you swapped, but if
your recipe is for brandy, it may be a different one.

Drop me a mail if you want me to type it in for you.

I've been trying to scan it but it's such an old tatty piece of paper
that it comes out unintelligible. |'ll have to type it, but I need to
go out now so I'll do it later

Hi I have a 1986 Mary Berry - Cooking for Celebrations cook book, which has
a traditional old English Fruit Cake in it but only with Sherry, not brandy.
If you would like I can scan it in and send it to you.

Old^Wolf suggests that you may wish to try his Game Christmas Dinner
recipe...

2cups of Winelot Mixer
1cup of slightly rancid pheasant chunks
Half a semi putrid rabbit
2 outdated Duck eggs (The older the better!)
Half a pint of excessively greasy pork stock
Several handfuls of any other leftover ingredients that you have available.

Throw the whole lot into a feeding bowl
Mix well
Place on floor in the usual place
Stand well back for several hours :-)

Cheers
