Plus Mew[1], which makes 151. Both answers a) 150 and b) 151 are right
depending on who you talk to.

Oldest daughter's making good progress with Pokemon Blue on her EB
Gameboy[2], so I've learned a lot about Pokemon in the last couple of
weeks. Still think the cartoon is poorly animated rubbish, though
(but it helps your gameplay if you watch it).

[1] Quite why Mewtwo comes before Mew is a mystery to me.
[2] Takes me back to school days playing Dungeons and Dragons - hadn't
expected it to be such a complete rôle playing game. Good reading
practice for a 5/6 year old too, although her vocabulary's a
little strange :-)

Er, but doesn't Pokémon #150's name Mew*TWO* rather give the game
away that there's another one ? Not much of a secret.

Interesting, I got this answer off a Pokemon web page (can't remember which
one). Must go back and see if I missed something. Apologies if I mislead
anyone.

Hi Found section: See 1)

Pokemon was originally a Gameboy video game (and like most video games was
from Japan) in which you are a Pokemon trainer whose job has several
elements: 1) catch all 150 Pokemon, 2) train/evolve your Pokemon to make
them stronger, and 3) use your Pokemon to defeat other trainers' Pokemon.
The Pokemon TV show started in Japan to promote the game. A plethora of toys
and merchandise, including the Pokemon trading card game, came out in Japan
to capitalize on this whole thing, and now most (but not all) of this stuff
is being brought over to the U.S.!

Web Page is:
http://www.geocities.com/ResearchTriangle/Campus/3229/pokemon.html#QuickAnsw
ers

I am now confused.

Just to confuse things a little further.... If you take a look
at http://www.gameplay.com/pokemon the list goes -

#001
.
.
#149
#150 Mewtwo
#151 Mew
Togepi

So they actually list 152 but only 151 of them have numbers,
it's all very strange !!!

I'm obviously far too old to understand how it all works.

Think that I will be putting 151 as my answer though, unless of
course my 9 year old son tells me otherwise.

Regards
Chris.

Pokemon...

Think they`ll be after 150 as the answer, The gb game has 150 to collect -
don`t know what the 150th is mew or mewtwo (thought mewtwo was made during
the film version) but it does seem odd having mewtwo as 150 and mew as 151!!
Saying that the gb game has one pokemon that only appears once, so unless
you catch him there and then you lose out! So it`s possible Mew exsisted
first BUT Mewtwo was discovered first, if you see what i mean....anyhow if
you include the new ones in Japan then things gte really confusing...

Heh! Plus two `glitch' pokemon that aren't supposed to exist
`MissingNo' and `M'. Rumour has it that putting one of these into a
box with the right combination of other Pokemon will evolve into
Togepi. There's also supposed to be a way of evolving a dragonite
into Pokemon #999 Yoshi.

I say there are 151. Problem is - what do the judges want as an
answer ? I think they want 151 and they've put 150 in to catch out
anybody who's not keeping up to date. Otherwise the choices would
have been 140, 150 & 160. Maybe.

This is like the ``what does DVD stand for ?'' question. The answer
is ``it depends''.

What was the prize again? Suppose if it was film merchandise then, yep,
they would want 151, but if it was for a Gameboy then i would put 150.

Do you think they would accept 2 entries one with 150 and 151. I will be
putting 151 on mine
Does it say 1 per person

Can't see anything in the rules about 1 entry per person. However one of the
items in the goody bag is a Pokemon Spin Fighter and in the blurb about it,
it says "It's a great way to collect all 151 characters" so I reckon that
must be the answer they want
Hope this helps

There are 151 Pokemon. The question came up in a recent comp. Here's the
story. Mew was known to exist but had never been seen and was sort of a
legendary/mythical figure. A fossilised Mew was found and MewTwo was cloned
from the extracted DNA. So MewTwo became Pokemon 150. Later in the story a
real live Mew actually appears and helps the goodies battle MewTwo. Because
he appears later than MewTwo, Mew becomes Pokemon 151.

Sad isn't it? That at my age I should know this rubbish :-)

Me thinks someone is watching to much kids tv or reading their comics -
intersting though and makes very impressive titbits when talking to the
younger Pokemon experts.
