1: It's the ground floor of what was once The Rock,. a short-lived A-list
member's club founded by Piers Adam, which hit the rocks faster than the
Titanic. Contemplated through an arched window, the view of the London Eye
is the sexiest new footbridge across the Thames is much more interesting than
my fellow mid-evening drinkers.
(that puts it around Embankment, then)
2: Wannabes in nasty high street Patrick Cox rip-offs and their female
counterparts in regulation black drag guzzle predictable cocktails for a
fiver, while perching on impossibly high stools dotted around a slick
'style' bar-by-numbers accomodating 600 people.
3: chocolate, toffee and caramel decor, with oblig. 1950s pendant lighting
and dubious abstract 'art', extends down a sweeping staircase to the lounge
bar, housed within the original white brick arches of a Victorian pumping
station turned nightclub.
4: A mezzanine level overlooks the basement bar, where metal ducting and
opaque glass describe raised recesses which permit intimate conversations on
leather banquettes and funky egg cup chairs
5: It's a fair representation of a private club and forms part of a seccessful
chain of middle-market venues that, despite their central location, feel
deeply suburban. Food is available while you groove through to 3am, but miss
the last tube from the adjacent District Line station and the cab fare to
Ealing Broadway will ruin your night. So, where am I?
