I have inherited a quantity of cupro-nickel shillings, which because of a
collapsed roof have been wet for several years.
My bank will reluctantly accept demonetised shillings, but I suspect not
in this condition - variously black, green and copper-coloured. Is there a
quick way I can make them silver-coloured again? I don't intend to collect
them, but there are about £100-worth at face value, which is a loss I'd
rather avoid.
Plan B is to bury them and hope that they're worth something to someone in
1000 years or so.
There were a few silver shillings as well. They have kept their colour
much better.
