Has anyone had any experience of getting a new battery
fitted to an Avocet altimeter/watch in the UK? I kept
the bit of the instructions that said 'it must be done
by an authorised dealer' or somesuch, but not the list
of addresses to send it to. I expect it is pressure
sealed, so a high street jeweller probably wouldn't be
up to the job - is that right..?

oh and do not get a jeweler involved as the microchips have to be
calibrated to the right pressure and i beleive this will totally fuck it up
if it is not done right.

I did one myself.

It is a little delicate taking it apart.

Use a very small blade to unclip the battery retaining clip gently.
The downward pointing bit in the centre of the clip is a contact and
only justr touches onto the contact in the bottom (as you look at when
open.)

Check which way up you have to replace the new battery before you take
the old one out.

Just make sure that you seat the sealing ring back in it's groove.

The new battery is a standard watch tyope one you can get from any
Dixons (where I got mine.)
