Did any other couch potatoes see this prog. on tv Sunday night?
Where was this filmed? what was the route?
Pretty spooky story, I must be more careful about who I climb with ;)
I tried to 'rivet count' my way through it but it was very well done for
a drama/ soap (not sure about the salt crystals in rope bit though).

The climb is Atlantic Ocean Wall (E5 6b) at Landsend. The lead climber
in the programme was Mark Edwards, who also did the first ascent of
the climb with Rowland Edwards.
It's also the climb in the picture on the front of the Cornish Rock
guidebook (written by Rowland Edwards).

See ya,

Yeah, saw it.

Not a clue to the exact spot. Somewhere in Cornwall (so my wife tells
me)! I think he called the route Ice Maiden or something like that, but
whether that is the name or not I don't know.

Absolutely. Watch for the leader carrying a lump of soil on the ascent!

Obviously they had put a bit of research into it, unlike many other
programs that incorporate a sport/recreation of this type into their
storylines. I have read somewhere about salt crystals etc when climbing
on sea cliffs etc. Not as dangerous as a large rock sized crystal
hitting your rope though! ;-)

Very odd how he was capable of carrying up, and smearing in a lump of mud
without his partner noticing, and yet couldn't climb the middle pitch
without using "2 points of protection" (how many times did they say those
words?

Especially seeing as he said that the rope had got a bit wet at the start
of the route - so the salt crystals had only had a matter of hours to form
and damage the rope! I would have thought they could do with a few days at
least....
I watched it with my hubbies family - none of whom climb, and he just kept
saying "That's exactly what climbers are like!!!" over and over
again...... So I guess it was a good portrait of what climbers and
climbing seem like to people from the outside =8-|
By the way - does anyone live near to Dumbarton?

I reckon that's what you did to me on Gad Fly at Pembroke... still, you
hadn't reckoned with my one armed 'Sly Stallone' HANG ON technique.
How long have you been lurking 'ere?
