Hi,

I often chat with people from all over the world... Every now and then some
of them are VW freaks..
When I ask them what type they're driving I get the answer Golf IV VR6 !
At this point I feel a good laugh coming up....
As far as I know production of the VR6 ended with the mk III !!! I know
Belgium is a country
filled with retards, but perhaps other countries still make VR6 engines...
Does anyone know if this is true ???

Regards,

Dennis de Groot

And BTW, the only true GTI is the MKII GTI 16v

That's a bit tasteless, and foolish, isn't it?

AFAIK the Golf Mk IV (A4 designation) is available with the VR6 engine,
still. I think the US have this option.

I think this is valid point. I have a Vento VR6 which i'm very pleased with
but i now have the option to lease basically any car i want. I've read all
the reports i can find on the 1.8T, V5 and V6Motion and realised that, at
present, Volkswagen don't make a similar replacement. I would miss the
performance of the VR6 if i bought another VW which leaves me the option to
lease something else or stick with what i've got. Come on VW lets have a V6
non 4WD again please.

Why not have the V6 and live with the four wheel drive ? I guess the cost of
your Vento new would have been about 19K here in the UK, and the V6 4Motion
is 22K. If they drop the four wheel drive with the V6 I doubt you would see
a car costing much less than 20K, and the spec. on the V6 is pretty good
compared to Vento of yesteryear...

I also tried the 1.8T GTi Golf the other day. I am used to the old VR6 Golf
a bit, and I'd say the ride is softer in the new car, but the performance is
not a hugely different for normal road use. I suspect that if VW got there
arse in gear and released a 180 BHP version of the 1.8T you would leave old
VR6s behind... Actually, they might find the V6 looking a bit slow too !

My main complaint about the Corrado is that it loves to under steer when
pushed. I hot that the 4Motion would be better, in which case more power
would be good there too ! at almost 1.5 tons the power to weight ratio is
not so good. (157/ton for my Corrado vs. 146/ton on the 4Motion).

I do have something to complain about however. Where is the good replacement
for the Corrado ? At the moment if I were forced I'd just have to take the
TT :-)

Regards,

Peter
VR6 Corrado.

Silly man -- here in the US, being probably worse "retards" than Belgians,
VW sells us GTI's, Jetta/Boras with VR6 engines, standard in the kitted out
high levels of trim!

So climb back under that rock, snail!

It's available, as the VR6 4Motion. 4WD >200bhp.

bztt, wrong answer. Mk1 1.8 GTI. Anything after this is too lardy, and
the 16v is gutless at low revs.

On the M6 about a month ago, I was overtaken by a dk blue mk4 with a VR6
badge on the back. It also had a badge underneath which looked like it was
the name of a tuning company so I accelerated to catch up with it, but being
in a diesel Seat Alhambra (hire car) with 4 people, a drumkit, and 2 guitars
and amps, I never did quite manage. It was a peach though!
