Hi,

I have a MK3 Golf 1.8CL. The tyre front tyres need badly replaced so I
though I would order some from the mytyres.co.uk website. When I was
checking the tyres for the size I noticed the front ones were different from
the back ones. The front are 175/70/R13 and back ones are 165/70/R13. Is
this correct or should the both be the same and what size should they be??

Any help appreciated!!

Bryan

The tyres, regardless of front/rear wheel drive (though obviously yours
is front) should NOT be smaller on the rear axle than the front. I'd
therefore advise you get new tyres for your currently worn out 175's but
put those wheels on the rear and put the 165s on the front and replace
when they are worn. I realise this may increase the speed in which you
may need tyres but will reduce the risk of a spin etc which could be
more costly esp as we are coming into winter...

By the way just a quick PS which I forgot on my post, with the tyres as
they are its not just a safety issue, its also illegal and an MoT
failure as far as I know, picked it up from either here or one of the
other Golf forums a while ago.
