The RAMVA pages suggest installing the flywheel on the engine, losely
mounting it up to the box starting it up and using the new flywheel to grind
away the softer gearbox metal by gradually tightening up the engine studs as
it's running! Is this really a good idea!!

Yes, that works. Otherwise you'll need some kind
of powered die grinding tool.
(I assume you have already converted the car to 12 Volts.)
Besides the new 12 V starter you'll need, don't forget to
swap out the little bushing in the bellhousing; 6V is different
from 12V. There is a conversion bushing available.
Better yet, find a starter from an auto-stick; they're
stronger and don't need any bushing.
