Hi,
I'm selling my personal plate and was wondering if anyone has had any
experience on this.
Is there a way to change the owners details on theV778 retention document or
do I have to get the new owners registration documents and get the number
assigned to his car myself?

TIA
Homer.

I did a similar thing some time ago. If I remember correctly there is a
section on the V778 where you can complete and sign to change the 'nominee
details'. I just sent the form to the new owner of the number and he took
it to his local licencing office.

Worth contacting the DVLA to make sure - 0870 240 0010

There is a section on the retention document that allows you to nominate
another person. You need to fill this in with the appropriate details
and send the certificate off to the DVLA with another 25 quid retainer
fee. In return, you'll get another retainer form, still in your name
but with the nominee's details 'officially' printed on it. You then
sign the appropriate part of the new certificate to say that you wish to
transfer ownership to the nominee, and give the certificate to the new
owner to do with as they wish.
