I'm about to do some work on my Zafira B (1.9 CDTi) that requires the
battery to be disconnected.

Will I need a security code for the radio (CD30) when I reconnect it?
There's no mention of it in the car or radio handbooks and I wasn't
given a code when I bought the car (2nd hand from a main dealer). Can't
find out from them until Monday.

Dunno but if you got it from a main dealer they will have the code for
it on their computers.

it is coded to the ecu, so it should be fine.

I realise that, but as I said, I won't be able to ask them until Monday.

Thanks for the info anyway.

that is how they work, if the radio forgets its info after a very long time
disconnected then it would need to be reconnected to the ecu using a 'tech2'
machine which is generally only available at main dealers or specialists.

I was told that the radio is matched to the display, so if you buy a
new radio (or a new display) you have to get the two paired by the
dealer or other specialist. I found this out because I wondered about
buying a new display to upgrade my 2-line display to one of the
larger, more sophisticated ones but it sounded like too much hassle,
so I've never got round to it yet!

no doubt the display is coded to the radio unit too. certainly that always
used to be the case back in the 90s, I had to buy a display for an RC303
which had to be specially ordered by the radio serial number/rego.

Really? ISTR buying a secondhand one on eBay after mine died, and I just
put the old code in it. Worked a treat.

that would rather defeat the purpose of having a removable display, but
perhaps there was a way to get round it if you knew the trick, there often
is, such as soldering across two tracks at the right point or clipping a leg
on an ic.

If you had a non-original display, as I did, you'd still need to know
the code in the radio itself. That's where it's stored, not in the
removable display unit.

Things (and radios) have changed since the days of the SC303! I really
must get rid of the old Cav that's been sitting SORNed on my drive for
far too long now.

At the time (the cav. was nearly new) I had to produce the log book and
order the display, which they said was coded to the radio, obviously they
were wrong, what a palaver.
