I have a 1996 mk 4 fiesta which keeps cutting out, there is a notice on
the back of the drivers sun visor that says there is a fuel pump cut off
switch, refer to owners manual for location and reset instructions,
however, I don't have a manual, one was never given to me when I bought
the car, can anyone tell me where the switch is and how to reset it?
thanks.

I have a 1998 Fiesta and the manual says:

"it is located in the side panel in front of the left hand door.
To gain access, remove the plug using a flat-bladed screw driver.
The button will be raised when the switch is activated."

"RESETTING THE SWITCH

* Turn the ignition switch to position '0'
* check fuel system for leaks
* if no fuel leak apparent, reset the switch by pushing in the button
* Turn the ignition switch to position 'II'. After a few seconds return
the key to position 'I'
* make further check for leaks in the fuel system."

Hope this helps

Richard

BTW the manual was revised in 1997 but i doubt it will be much differnt if
any

Assuming it keeps cutting out then it keeps restarting..... If the
inertia switch activates it HAS to be rest manually. Therefore your
problem is not with the switch.

Thanks for your reply, the engine cuts out when I slow down to under 10
mph in first or second gear. I can jump start it if I'm moving quick
enough or restart immeadiately by turning the ignition. So could this be
something to do with the switch, or something else maybe?

Thanks,

Simon.

As your engine will restart, it has nothing to do with the inertia
switch. Once an inertia switch has triggered it has to be manually
reset.

Sound just like my XR2i. Does your car have a rev counter?

no sign of the original post on bt news it seems- dont know year or engine
fitted but sounds like fault with either:

a) vacuum leak into inlet manifold
b) faulty ISCV
c) faulty TPS
d) faulty gearbox speed sensor
e) faulty clutch or brake pedal switch.

NOT to do with the inertia switch, if this trips the engine stops all
together until the switch is reset- all it does is cuts the power to the
fuel pump.

Tim.
