After a period of erratic operation of the central locking on my
Vectra's front passenger door, presumably due to a loose wire (?)
somewhere, the door has finally failed in the deadlocked position. I
can't get it open, and there is no keyhole on that door.

Does anyone know if there is a way to release it? Is it possible to
get the inside door panel off to reach the mechanism without opening
it?

Thanks for any advice,

Chris

And your proof of ownership is.....

Do you really think someone should tell all the joy riders out there
who to defeat these locks ?....

Contact your Vauxhall dealer with your documents in hand.

The entire lock mechanism is a sealed assembly. There is no easy way to get
into it - the door panel has to be removed, and then the lock drilled out,
all with the door shut. Challenging, believe me. I have had to do it quite a
few times.....

If you think they don't already know then you're an idiot.

Luckily I've got the door open - the intermittent fault cleared briefly and
the lock opened, but now it's stopped working again (all other doors still
work fine).

Anyway, I've stripped off the door panel and unplugged the connector from
the lock so it can't deadlock on me again. The questions now (before I get
in any deeper) are:

(a) Is it feasible to replace the lock assembly module myself (the Haynes
manual makes it sound straightforward), or is it really a garage job?

(b) Do the intermittent symptoms suggest a fault in the lock module, or
could the problem actually lie elsewhere? (I've checked the connectors at
both the lock end and the central locking control module in the driver's
footwell and everthing seems secure.)

Thanks again for the advice,

Chris

Most lock assemblies are easy to change, if a little fiddly, expect to
scrape your skin ! :~)

Check the wiring where it passes from dorr to door post.

No but you seem to be 'on something [1]' all the time, judging by your
posts to the group....

JLE, You really are a complete nit. Are you as rude and agressive in person
as you are on the net?

Welcome to my Kill file.

Please don't bother replying with more unhelpful off topic ranting because
I'm afraid I simply won't see it.

Love
matt

I'd never killfile you, JLE, because sometimes you make useful comments.
Given the number of scrotes about, maybe some reading this newsgroup (BTW if
you're reading this and you nicked my L plate, if I find you, I'll introduce
you to diesel drinking, okay?!).

It's not your posts, it's your aggressive attitude.

I'm sure you're more reasonable in the flesh. On Usenet, you sound like
Phil Mitchel, Eastenders. "Gonna get 'em all sorted, innt I?"
