Horn worked a couple of times, then seemed to fail. No amount of pummelling
of the wheel illicits so much as a parp.
Checked the fuse (well, okay, removed fuse panel in dusk conditions, bloody
Ka) - Fuse 25 (as per Haynes) is okay (and is apparently shared by the ABS -
ABS light comes on okay when ignition first selected).
Which leaves :-
1) Wiring
2) Horn switch in the steering wheel
3) Horn
1) - have you ever worked on a Ka? (or any modern car, for that matter)
2) - Any hints and tips about getting to the horn contacts easily?
3) - Any hints as to getting to this. Apparantly behind the front bumper -
need good daylight to take this off. Alternatively, if I could find the feed
wire then I could presumably dash that against 12v to prove the Horn.
Any hints / tips ?
Guess its pointless taking it in for an early MOT on a Saturday, unless the
garage concerned can actually fix it, or unless we can fix it beforehand.
Any help in gaining brownie-points gratefully received.
Regards.
Get an assistant to hold the horn button on (engine running for extra
voltage) and tap the horn with a screwdriver handle or similar. Horns
have contacts inside which can get fuzzed up, a quick whack often gets
them going again.
On such a late car there is not likely to be a wiring or swich fault.

I've just posted your query in the Ka Forum, so I'll see if anything happens
in the next hour or so.

Check the horn relay, assuming there is one!
according to haynes - no such thing
cheers
Buggritt to hell!!!
Damned horn is between the bumper and the wheel arch liner. According to
Haynes need to take both wheels / wheel arch liners / front bumper off to
get to the bloody horn.
Halfords have quoted a 1/2 hour job, they can bloody well do it.
(and she's interested in the option of a more butch horn).
For info, Evans Halshaw (Ford dealer) quoted £30.18+vat for new horn,
Halfords (probably a generic, but who cares) - £9.99. And she's in the AA,
so should get a 10% discount anyway.
Quick spray of carb-cleaner and the hands are clean once again (I know
that's not what its for, but it works, shame about the hands, though)
It works but if you make a habit of it you end up with dermatitis.

Does it work on fat anywhere else?
Could we sell it as a sliming product and put a 1000% mark up on it?
(It's not a real sliming product if it can't carry a 1000% markup)
A large number of people could do with some fat dissolving from their
brains.

Of all the things I have lost, it's my mind I miss the most
A bit late now, I know - but why not just wire up a new horn in a
different location?
Run a wire from that to where you can get to the factory horn wiring
(probably on the steering column)
Rich.
