Stalling Skoda Felicia

After being as bold as to praise my Skoda the other day, it's now
developed a problem...

The car is a 97P Felicia 1.3GLi estate, with the multipoint engine.
It's done 92,000m

The problem is that sometimes the engine stalls. It does this when
coming to a stop. As I put the clutch in, the engine revs drop
towards idle, and then fall further still. Normally, they bounce
back up again to a steady idle but sometimes (especially after a few
minutes at a steady speed), the ignition lights flash a bit as the
engine almost stalls, and occasionally it does stall completely.
When it stalls, it always re-starts very easily.

The only other non-optimal symptoms that the car displays are a
slight hunting on a cold start (lasts about 5 - 10 seconds), until
the engine settles down to a steady idle, and a gradual reduction in
fuel economy over recent months, down from around 42mpg to 38mpg.

Given the mileage, hunting and fuel economy drop off, could it be a
lambda sensor on the way out? Idle control valve?

Firstly give the throttle body a good clean out with carb cleaner and lots
of rags and a toothbrush. Clean enough to eat your dinner off. Make sure you
remove the ring of carbon that will have formed behind the throttle blade
when its at the idle position. You'll feel this with your finger. Its
sometimes easier to unbolt the TB to make sure you get it perfectly clean.

Remove the ISCV and flush that out too. I always lightly oil them after with
some light machine oil- 3-4 drips is plenty.

Re-install making sure all gaskets are in good order or replaced.
