Can anyone explain this:

My fiesta has a heated front windscreen which cleared 100% say 6 months ago,
now it only clears 50% (passenger side) and I mean bang on half the screen.

I have looked at the wire traces where it stops clearing and there don't
appear to be any breaks. There are also no visable cracks, etc. on the
window.

Any ideas, as its bloody annoying?

Dan

In article <amnmu4$aoc$1...@venus.btinternet.com>, ke...@btopenworld.com
says...

It's not the actual windscreen filaments, but the main electrical contact
that runs the length of the top and bottom of the windscreen. There'll be a
break somewhere on the top or bottom half. As to which one, or how to fix
it, I can't help I'm afraid ;-)

Pete.

get yourself a continuity tester
at either bottom corner of the screen will be two wires which will be taped
up
the passenger side will show continuity
the drivers side shouldn't
if it does, then it means the dash will have to come out to trace the fault
in the wiring
if it don't, the windscreen is Donald ducked and you will need to change it
for it to work again
make sure you get a genuine ford one as some of the copies they make have
fewer strands of filament in them and it takes longer to clear and they
break easier

just to put your mind at ease, the filaments can break if you hit a small
stone, even though there will be no marks in the screen
just the way it is

If it's anything like the old Granada Scorpio, the screen has two relays,
each fused. One for each side. Probably one of the fuses has blown or the
relay has failed. Couldn't tell you where they are tough.

The screen does indeed have two relays. The ones you want are located in the
central fuse box. Relay II is for the right hand side of the screen and is
green in colour. Relay IX is for the left hand side of the screen and is
also green in colour. Hope this helps.
