I am the owner of a 2001 Fiat Punto 1.2 8V equiped with a motronic
multipoint fuel injection system and some times when i push the brakes
(espesially in city driving conditions) the engine speed increases over
2.000 rpm (without pushing the accelerator pedal!). This problem appears
coincidentally and i have to switch off the engine to achieve the return of
speed to the nominal value (idle speed). I checked the brakes servo system
but i didnt find any vacuum leaks inside the system or on the connection of
vacuum pipe in the engine intake. The diagnosis computer dont show any
failure too. I suspect that something is going on with the stepper motor or
the idle switch . Is there anyone with the same problem and how he fixed it?
Thanks
George

Taking it back to the dealership, because it must be under warranty, surely?

Coincidently, I had a similar problem with my Cinquecento in that it hissed
when I applied the brakes, and the engine revs increased. But since my car
wasn't under warranty and my Fiat dealership was both expensive and
unfriendly, I didn't bother to get it sorted since the brakes still worked
perfectly.
